"Sand Dune" is a renewed 1960s beach cottage in Brewster along Cape Cod Bay, where everyday is showtime for nature's coastal splendors.
One of eight cottages known as Ellis Landing Cottages that were converted to condominium ownership five years ago, this one nests between dunes with privacy screens of willow, cedar, beach grass and white-blossoming shad trees come spring. For owner Bill Hanney, who operates The Theatre by the Sea in Rhode Island and just purchased the North Shore Music Theatre, the cottage was a guest house to his main house, which is also one of the colony's original homes.
The cottage and its setting features sea views that stretch from Provincetown to the Cape Cod Canal, and wide, sandy beaches and sandbars that are a prime spot to enjoy all that the bay offers.
The retreat's recent capital investments include new plumbing and water lines, a high-efficiency electric heating system, fresh decor and a fully rebuilt seawall.
Yellow textured barn board wall paneling with green mid-wall trimwork and red oak laminate flooring color the open living, dining and kitchen spaces. Walls with new windows frame the ever-changing seascape outside.
The new upscale kitchen features hand blown glass pendant lights and a wall-mounted rustic oar. Bedrooms have green and tan tweed carpeting. A sea-view bedroom has sand-colored barn board paneling with blue mid-wall trimwork, while a bedroom overlooking the dunes has a blue and green decor.
In season, the cottage rents for $3,000 weekly.
