"A Quiet Place" is a sense of wonder setting on Black Pond in West Chatham that brings tranquility in the nearness of nature.
"There's nothing like getting up in the morning and seeing the fog on the pond and rowing out into it," owner Melinda Chase said.
The easy-living cottage with custom features and 12-over-12 muntined windows was built in 1988, but it was the seclusion and spiritual presence of the place that drew the Chase family. Half of the home's 2.2 acres is upland and half is wetland, providing a haven for kingfishers, swan, blue heron, hawks and owls.

Walls of the combined living room, dining room and kitchen are freshly painted pastel green that changes hues as daylight streams through surrounding windows. The kitchen features custom cherry paneled cabinets, new stone-image vinyl flooring and cream-marbled laminate on the main and island counters.
The dining area's gliding glass door opens to a pond-view deck. Bedroom and bathroom colors reflect seasonal blossoms beyond their windows of blue hydrangea and pink to cream rhododendron among lilac, purple wisteria and yellow daffodils.
